About Private Sector Calculators
Private Sector Calculators is an independent UK website that works out take-home pay for private-sector jobs where pay is complicated. We started with HGV drivers — hourly rates, agency day rates, night premiums, overtime, tramping allowances — and armed forces pay, where ranks, trade supplements and daily allowances make a simple salary figure meaningless.
Why we exist
Public-sector workers are well served: there are established sites with thousands of calculators for NHS, police and civil service pay. Nobody was doing the same job for the private sector with the same rigour — real pay datasets, a proper tax model, and figures you can trace back to a source. That is the gap we fill.
How we work
Every calculator runs on one shared 2026/27 tax engine, and every pay figure comes from a named, dated source — the RHA Pay Report 2026, the AFPRB 55th Report 2026, gov.uk. We review every page at least once a year, every April, when the new tax year and the new pay awards land. Read the full methodology and the data sources if you want the detail.
What we are not
We are not financial advisers. Our calculators are estimates for guidance, built from published data — your contract, hours and tax code decide what actually lands in your account. We carry no advertising from employers and no sponsored placements in our figures.
